Introduction
Welcome to our website!
the SILVANUS GROUP. We appreciate your interest in our website of
Allow me to present some thoughts on our business approach, activities and an overview of our services.
The basis for my interests and commitment to nature and plants is that I am holding a Forestry MSc.
I founded the company back in 1980.
Our company got known in Europe due to the production and trade of quality ornamental trees and the development of our own tree varieties. The trade with Western Europe and Russia has a share of ca. 30% today of our gross income.
There are a lot of changes in the world today. The challenges of climate change, energy crisis or other environmental issues inspire me as forester and expert in plant breeding to search for possible options in addressing these challenges and contributing towards solutions. Therefore, we have kept our profitable ornamental tree production but at the same time have also developed the forestry species business with tree breeding, selection and production of reproductive material of fast growing species. Our focus within forestry management got to high growth plantations of different purposes, such as energy wood or industrial wood production, and the production of their propagation material. Our research and development activities are also related to these topics.
Since the 1950s', we gained lots of experience in Hungary in the breeding of black locust, poplars, willows and their managament in plantations. My company joined forces with the well known black locust breeding expert, Dr. Imre Kapusi and the results of our cooperation are new varieties of Black locust of extreme yield and growth. With our new white willow varieties we have gained positive results in both Hungary and Europe.
One of the key objectives of the European Union's and also our country's energy policy to increase the use of renewable and biomass-based energy sources. Under the current guidelines, the EU intends to raise its renewable energy usage to 20% until 2020, from the current level of 8-10%. Energy forests and tree plantations for energy purposes play a major role in the Successful implementation of this program.
I am sure that apart of the eukalypts, poplars, bamboo or the teak, we also need to work with other species in plantations to make progress with issues such as climate change mitigation, renewable energy production or other environmental challenges. These other plantation species could be our special varietes of energy willows and the black locust ! Biomass as a source for renewable energy is the area where our company can contribute to a greener economy.
However, in Europe, we need to be aware of the need of and strive for sustainable land use, energy production and the balance of natural and plantation forests. This balance constructs our vision of work!
